Manhattan is a cocktail which has been in the spotlight right from its creation: legend has it that it was created around 1870 at the “Manhattan Club” in New York by Iain Marshall for a reception held by Jennie Jerome (i.e. Lady Randolph Churchill, the mother of Winston Churchill) in honour of the presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden.
